What are your favourite healthy meals for work?


Deciding what to have for lunch at work is a constant struggle.  I really try to think of healthy meals for lunch at work, but often get discouraged and end up eating out instead of bringing my own lunch.

What are your ideas for healthy lunches at work? Here are some of mine:

1-      Salad! You can never go wrong with salad, and there are so many ways to change it up so you don’t get bored. You can add in different veggies, fruits, cheeses and meats. Even change up the dressing, but be careful to read the nutritional information on your salad dressing!
2-      A pita or wrap, with lean meat such as turkey or chicken
3-      Sandwich – choose lean fish or meat and be careful about the dressings and sauces!
4-      Soup – many different varieties and can be eaten with pita, crackers or bread
5-      Rice and beans – add  in some meat, or spices to suit your tastes

Healthy Meals to Bring to Work


In 2009, planning your meals for the day was “one of the largest and fastest growing online activities.” Planning healthy meals for work are now easier because of the smartphone application on the iPhone and Android, that help you stay informed about grocery specials, recipes, and dietary needs. Everyone needs healthy meals to bring to work, especially when their day consists of sitting at a desk and not doing any form of exercise to burn off calories.

This article from Fit and Health, written by Stephanie Crawford, lists different ways you can make healthy lunches for work. It is very useful as it lists convenient and cheap ways you can put together nutritious and filling lunches, without leaning towards junk food.

This article gives good ideas about how you can preplan you lunches, such as doing all your slicing, chopping and cooking before hand, by dividing the food in small serving containers or bags. With having preplan lunches to choose from throughout the week, allows you to have more time in the morning, and grab your lunch on the way out that will be healthy and prepared beforehand. With preplanning your lunches you are, saving money, eating healthier and refraining from the temptation to eat out and grab something convenient instead.
